College of Medicine Work Anniversaries

Congratulations to the following College of Medicine employees who are celebrating a milestone work anniversary in January: Karen Briar, animal caretaker, and Dana Knoster, administrative support assistant. Both are celebrating 10 years of service. Employees are recognized for their time at Penn State. Recognition begins on the 10th anniversary and is given in five-year increments. LastPass Password Manager

LastPass is almost here! This new, secure password management tool will help you safely store your website usernames and passwords. On the evening of Tuesday, March 3, you will receive an email from LastPass inviting you to click on a link to sign up for this optional tool. LastPass stores all your website usernames and passwords in one safe place and enters them automatically when you need to log in to a website. Visit the LastPass page on the Infonet to learn more.

Inclusion Academy Session March 5

The Inclusion Academy Session, “Providing Quality Inclusive Care for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Patients,” will be Thursday, March 5, from 7 to 8 a.m., at the College of Medicine, Junker Auditorium. The session is for providers, including residents, nurses, learners and medical staff. Register.

Benefits Talk March 10

The Penn State Health Benefits team will discuss Health Care and Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Accounts on Tuesday, March 10, from noon to 1 p.m. at Hershey Medical Center, Room T2500. ‘Evaluation Management’ March 10

Victoria Moll of Penn State Health Revenue Integrity will discuss “Evaluation and Management: Current and Future State” on Tuesday, March 10, from noon to 1 p.m. at the College of Medicine, Room C3621. Lunch will be provided and Continuing Medical Education credit is available. The event is part of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Lunch and Learn Series.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Classes

Mindfulness-based stress reduction classes return. This eight-week course will teach the principles of mindfulness and how to apply them to deal more effectively with stress and the demands of daily life. University Fitness Center (UFC) is organizing two sessions: one at UFC Mondays, March 30 through May 18; orientation March 23, and the other at Penn State Cancer Institute Wednesdays, April 1 to May 20; orientation March 25. Black: Strategic Planning Process Underway

Dr. Kevin Black, interim dean at the College of Medicine, emailed faculty, staff and students Tuesday about the College’s new strategic planning project. “The purpose is to look ahead at the next five years to envision – and then create – the future of our college,” Black wrote. Faculty, staff and students were invited to participate in a survey to help guide the strategic planning task forces. A series of town hall meetings has also been scheduled in Hershey and State College. Read the full email.

E-Cigarette Flavors Research

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration began enforcing a policy to stamp out flavored cartridge-based e-cigarette products on Feb. 6. Their goal: to stem the current e-cigarette epidemic among youths. But a new study from researchers at the College of Medicine finds adults enjoy those sweet e-cigarette flavors just as much as teens, suggesting that the policy may have consequences for older people, too.
