Mandatory employee training starts Jan. 21

What: 2020 annual Compliance and Cybersecurity Awareness training modules must be completed. Employees will receive separate training assignments in Compass for Compliance and for Cybersecurity Awareness OR in LION for Compliance and in the SANS Training Portal for Cybersecurity Awareness).

The pre-test option will remain in place for certain Compliance modules. Those who pass the pre-test will receive completion credit for the course.  Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits will also be offered, but please note that if you elect to receive CME credits, you will be required to complete the entire module.

A pre-test option will now be included for the combined Cybersecurity & Privacy Awareness training this year, with a reduction in required training for those who pass the test.

Who: All Penn State Health workforce (employee and non-employee), including PRN employees. The Compliance training does not apply to Penn State College of Medicine employees. However, College of Medicine employees and the non-employee workforce (i.e., volunteers, students and contractors) will be required to complete the Cybersecurity & Privacy Awareness training.

When: Between Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Thursday, April 9.

Why: Compliance training ensures employees understand key legal, ethical and policy issues related to patient care and the importance of accurate billing. Administrators have tailored the courses to specific employee roles.

Cybersecurity and Privacy Awareness training ensures that employees are trained and equipped to deal with threats emerging from the internet as well as satisfying our regulatory and compliance obligations under laws such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Completion of the Compliance and Cybersecurity & Privacy training is a condition of continuing employment at Penn State Health. Failure to complete the training can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
