Penn State Health Medical Group ― Prospect Opens Monday

The Penn State Health Medical Group — Mountville team will relocate to Columbia this Monday, Oct 7. The new Penn State Health Medical Group ― Prospect at 3985 Columbia Avenue, Suite 8, Columbia, will feature two new providers, additional exam rooms and on-site lab services at its 8,600-square-foot facility. 

Hershey Ranks Among Best Practice Finalists

Hershey Medical Center was among three finalists for NRC Health’s Improvement Best Practice Award. The award is presented to a hospital, health system or long-term care organization that “implemented a best practice which resulted in outstanding patient- or resident-centered care and health care outcomes,” according to the organization’s website.

Bailey Wins Engineering Award

The Pennsylvania Society for Health Facility Engineering (PSHFE) presented Glenn Bailey, director of plant operations for Penn State Health St. Joseph, with its 2019 Donald M. Sauerman Award. The award honors an outstanding health facility or biomedical engineer in Pennsylvania for a significant accomplishment in the field. In addition to a complimentary, one-year PSHFE membership, the award includes registration and travel expenses to attend two PSHFE conferences. 

Grigson, Bunce Receive $2 Million Grant

The National Institutes of Health have awarded more than $2 million to Patricia “Sue” Grigson, professor of neural and behavioral sciences and chair of the Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences, and Scott Bunce, associate professor of psychiatry and clinical psychologist, as part of the Helping to End Addiction Long-term Initiative. The initiative aims to improve treatments for chronic pain, curb the rates of opioid use disorder and overdose and achieve long-term recovery from opioid addiction. Read more.

Rosito Honored with Advance Life Support Award

Amanda Rosito, a paramedic at Life Lion Critical Care Transport Service, was awarded the Advanced Life Support (ALS) Practitioner of the Year Award by the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council. She accepted the award Sept. 5 at the Pennsylvania State Emergency Medical Services Conference in Manheim.

Feast of St. Francis of Assisi

Penn State Health St. Joseph will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia who founded St. Joseph Hospital, on Friday, Oct. 4. Events include a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in the Bern Campus Chapel and ice cream socials from 2-4 p.m. at the Bern Campus and 2-3:30 p.m. at the Downtown Campus. Treats will be delivered to the satellite offices and to third-shift employees.

Paws for a Cause 5K

LionCare will host the fourth annual Paws for a Cause 5K Run on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. at the Hershey Medical Center soccer fields. LionCare is a non-profit, free clinic operated by Penn State College of Medicine students that serves the medical, psychological and health needs of Harrisburg residents. All proceeds benefit the Bethesda Mission, home of LionCare and Harrisburg’s rescue mission. Register here.

Fall Employee Meeting Oct. 7

Join the conversation about Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine at the next Fall Employee Meeting Monday, Oct. 7 at noon, Derry Township School District Conference Room, 30 E. Addiction Symposium Abstracts due Oct. 14

Penn State Addiction Center for Translation is accepting abstracts for consideration as poster and oral presentations at the Fifth Annual Addiction Symposium. Send a 250-word abstract, complete with title, author(s), affiliations and the presenter’s email address, to PSACT@pennstatehealth.psu.edu by Monday, Oct. 14. The event will be Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Penn State College of Medicine, Junker Auditorium.

Employee Mammogram Nights

Penn State Health female employees age 40 and older are invited to schedule their annual screening mammogram during Employee Mammogram Nights at Penn State Breast Center Monday, Oct. 14 and Oct. 28, from 4:40―8 p.m., 30 Hope Drive, Entrance A, Suite 1800, Hershey. Penn State Health Lime Spring Outpatient Center will also host an Employee Mammogram Night on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 2-6 p.m., 221 Noll Drive, Lancaster. Register at 1-800-243-1455.

Funding Opportunities Presentation

Charity Sauder, administrative director of Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute, will host “Funding Opportunities Unique to Clinical and Translational Science Institute” on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from noon to 1 p.m. at the College of Medicine, H4504. Online registration is requested. The online stream link is provided upon registration.

Graduate and Postdoctoral Career Day

The 10th biennial Graduate and Postdoctoral Career Day will be on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Penn State College of Medicine. Career Day is an educational and networking event for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to learn about a wide range of career options and experiences available in the biomedical sciences and public health. 5K for Trey Online Auction

Organizers of the 5k for Trey are hosting an online auction, featuring sports memorabilia, autographed footballs and more now through Sunday, Oct. 20. Registration is required to place bids. Proceeds will support Hershey Medical Center and College of Medicine’s research of effective treatments for infectious diseases. The race is on Saturday Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon at 30 Hope Drive, Hershey.
