The tragic shootings in Buffalo, Uvalde and Tulsa have raised many difficult questions and emotions. As we stand united with those who are mourning their loved ones who were victims of the attacks, and the health care workers providing care to them, we must also work through our own emotions and fears, and those of our children.

Here are some resources to help as you navigate these difficult issues:

Penn State Health is committed to providing the safest possible environment for our workforce, students and patients. However, security alone cannot prevent violence on our campuses or in our community. Whether we are at work, in a grocery store, at a movie theater or walking down a street, we should be aware of what’s happening around us.

Our security teams continually take a proactive approach to prevent, recognize and respond to disruptive, potentially violent behavior. What can you do?

  • If you haven’t already taken the active shooter training, you can access the course here.
  • If you encounter something concerning, report it. Emergencies should always be reported to 911. Other concerning situations or behavior can be reported to hospital security teams at the numbers below, or by calling the local police department.
