Penn State College of Medicine managers and employees should begin planning their 2021-2022 goals now that performance appraisals are complete. Penn State announced the 2021-2022 performance review cycle will run from July 1, 2021, through March 31, 2022. Workday will open for setting goals on Monday, Aug. 2. The process is as follows:
- Prepare (July):During the month of July, employees and managers should be working together to review unit strategic priorities and set individual and organizational goals that support those priorities. The Developing Effective Goals and Setting SMART Goals knowledge base articles provide information on how to develop goals.
- Setting Goals in Workday (August):On Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, Workday will open for entering goals. Employees will enter their goals into Workday and submit them to their manager. Once the manager approves the goals, the goals can be edited/updated as needed throughout the performance year. The online module on Setting Goals and Expectations in Workday provides step-by-step instructions for the employee and manager.
- Manage Goals (August – February):During these months, managers and employees should be focused on achieving goals, meeting regularly to review goal progress, add or update goals, and document discussions. Ongoing feedback on progress can be documented in Workday using the Activity Stream functionality. Refer to the Commenting on Goals in Workday knowledge base article.
- End of Year (February – March):The end-of-year activities will kick off on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, and should be completed by Thursday, March 31, 2022. A summary of end-of-year activities with a recommended timeline is available on the HR Performance Management webpage.
More information will be released to support goal setting via email from Penn State Human Resources on Monday, Aug. 2.
