Penn State Health, College of Medicine update U.S. business travel, gathering policies

Within the walls and on the grounds of all Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine facilities, policies and guidelines related to masking, social distancing and patient care protocols remain in place. Masks are still required and social distancing guidelines must be followed in all settings, including meetings and gatherings.

Effective Monday, May 31, the following updates have been made to the meeting, training and gathering and travel, quarantine, and isolation guidelines and policies:

  • Business travel in U.S. is permitted for Penn State Health employees. Penn State College of Medicine employees are required to follow Penn State travel, quarantine and isolation policies and guidelines.
  • Penn State Health employees returning from international travel who are not required to quarantine by Employee Health must complete a COVID-19 test through Employee Health at an appropriate interval (as determined by Employee Health) after return.
  • The optimal choice for meetings, training events and gatherings continues to be virtual.
  • Internal meeting and gathering guidelines for Penn State Health and College of Medicine have been updated to increase capacity but with masking and social distancing guidance in place.
  • Indoors: Up to 50% of maximum occupancy permitted in rooms. Occupants must adhere to social distancing and other measures as listed in the guidelines. The maximum capacity of instructional space is indicated on the door.
  • Outdoor events held within a tent or other enclosed/semi-enclosed space: Up to 50% of maximum occupancy is permitted, and occupants must adhere to social distancing and other measures as listed in the guidelines.
  • Outdoor events held on open grounds: Up to 100 attendees may attend each event. They must adhere to social distancing and other measures as listed in the guidelines.
  • Outdoor events greater than 100 attendees require entity leadership approval as outlined in the guidelines.

As a reminder – employees are required to notify both their direct supervisor and Employee Health prior to returning to work after international travel and/or after a known COVID-19 exposure. This notification is required regardless of vaccination status.
