Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees gave generously to the United Way this year in two separate campaigns.

Hershey Medical Center, Shared Services, Medical Group and the College of Medicine teamed up to raise $382,154 for the United Way of the Capital Region 2020 campaign. Four-point-6% of employees participated in the campaign, compared to 4% last year. The number of pledges totaled 661. Seventy-three were first-time donors.

St. Joseph Medical Center surpassed its goal of $20,000 by raising $21,088 in support of United Way of Berks County. Five percent of its employees participated. Seventy-eight employees pledged, and 37 donated for the first time.

“Our Penn State Health employees again stepped in to help those struggling in our community with meaningful contributions to United Way,” said Jim George, campaign chair and Penn State Health director of community relations. “These heartfelt contributions will help meet the needs of community members who have been hit hard in ways we could not have imagined a year ago.”

The winners of the United Way incentive prizes will be announced on March 12, 2021.

Employees who are interested in serving on the United Way Committee and helping to plan events can contact George at jgeorge5@pennstatehealth.psu.edu.
